metal enclosures with &#8220;explosion-proof&#8221; (Ex &#8220;db&#8221;) types of protection with &#8220;increased safety&#8221; (Ex &#8220;eb&#8221;) junction boxes, with <strong>combined Ex &#8220;db eb IIC Gb&#8221;<\/strong> protections provide, among others, the <strong>benefits<\/strong> of increased &#8220;Ex&#8221; field service <strong>facilities<\/strong> for the assembly, inspection and maintenance activities of <strong>automation, telecommunication and electrical<\/strong> equipment and installations in <\/em>hazardous<em> areas containing <strong>flammable gases<\/strong>.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>As it could be verified in <strong>Part 1\/3<\/strong> of this Article, the system of <strong>DIRECT<\/strong> cable entries inside metal enclosures with type of Ex &#8220;d&#8221; protection can present undue &#8220;deviations&#8221;, resulting from <strong>failures of &#8220;Ex&#8221; field services<\/strong>, related to failures of &#8220;Ex&#8221; <strong>design, assembly, inspection and maintenance services<\/strong> in hazardous areas.<\/p>\n<p>In <strong>Part 2\/3<\/strong> of this Article, the characteristics of indirect cable entries in Ex \u201cd\u201d metallic enclosures, by means of <strong>Ex \u201cd\u201d \u201cbushings<\/strong>\u201d and by means of use of <strong>external<\/strong> terminal box, with type of protection <strong>Ex \u201ce\u201d (increased safety)<\/strong> were shown, as well as the <strong>benefits <\/strong>obtained, from the point of view of easy <strong>assembly, inspection and maintenance \u201cEx\u201d<\/strong>, and from the point of view of <strong>safety<\/strong> of the instrumentation, automation, telecommunications and electrical installations in hazardous areas, resulting from the use of the system of <strong>INDIRECT<\/strong> cable entries, in relation to the system of <strong>DIRECT<\/strong> cable entries to the interior of metal enclosures of equipment with type of protection Ex &#8220;d&#8221; (&#8220;explosion-proof&#8221;).<\/p>\n<p>This <strong>Part 3\/3<\/strong> of this Article shows suitable <strong>examples<\/strong> of equipment installations incorporating the appropriate <strong>COMBINATION<\/strong> of the <strong>Ex &#8220;db&#8221; and Ex &#8220;eb&#8221;<\/strong> protection types, using the system of <strong>INDIRECT<\/strong> cable entries through the use of Ex &#8220;d&#8221; bushings and <strong>&#8220;increased safety&#8221;<\/strong> (Ex &#8220;eb&#8221;) terminal boxes.<\/p>\n<p>The following are some <strong>practical<\/strong> examples of &#8220;Ex&#8221; equipment installations containing <strong>&#8220;explosion-proof&#8221;<\/strong> (Ex &#8220;d&#8221;) type metallic enclosures, where the external cable entries into the interior of the Ex &#8220;d&#8221; metallic enclosure are not made <strong>&#8220;directly&#8221;,<\/strong> for example by means of Ex &#8220;d&#8221; cable glands or Ex &#8220;d&#8221; sealing units, but in an &#8220;INDIRECT&#8221; way, through a terminal box with type of protection <strong>&#8220;increased safety&#8221;<\/strong> (Ex &#8220;e&#8221;), <strong>dispensing<\/strong> with the need for additional field installation of Ex &#8220;d&#8221; Example of full markings: Ex db eb IIC T4 Gb \/ Ex tb IIIC T135 \u00baC Db<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong>Considerations on the benefits of INDIRECT cable entries into equipment with <em>&#8220;explosion-proof&#8221;<\/em> type metal enclosures &#8211; Combined Ex &#8220;db eb IIC Gb&#8221; protections<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>[1]\u00a0 \u00a0 <\/strong>One of the ways to <strong>simplify<\/strong> the field service requirements in &#8220;Ex&#8221; assembly, inspection and maintenance is the use of metal Ex &#8220;d&#8221; enclosures with <strong>threaded<\/strong> covers and a system of <strong>INDIRECT<\/strong> cable entries into the interior of the enclosure by means of terminal boxes with <strong>increased safety type protection<\/strong> (Ex &#8220;e&#8221;), supplied by the manufacturers themselves together with the Ex &#8220;d&#8221; equipment\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong>[2]\u00a0 \u00a0<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">The use of sealed cable (<strong><em>bushings<\/em><\/strong>) of the Ex &#8220;d&#8221; type, together with terminal boxes of the increased safety type (<strong>Ex &#8220;e&#8221;<\/strong>) makes it possible for manufacturers to make available on the market equipment with metal enclosures with the <strong>combined protection types Ex &#8220;db and eb&#8221;<\/strong>, with a system of <strong><em>INDIRECT<\/em><\/strong> cable entries into the interior of the metal enclosure Ex &#8220;d&#8221;, providing benefits and superior technical characteristics in relation to the equipments with <strong><em>direct<\/em><\/strong> entries system, in terms of bigger facilities of <strong>assembly<\/strong> services, <strong>inspection and field &#8220;Ex&#8221;<\/strong> maintenance, in hazardous areas, from the point of view of <strong>facilities<\/strong> for <strong>users<\/strong> and <strong>owners<\/strong> of equipment and installations in explosive atmospheres<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>[3]\u00a0 \u00a0<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Equipment with Ex &#8220;d&#8221; metal enclosures with an <\/span><strong style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><em>INDIRECT<\/em><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"> cable entry system by means of Ex &#8220;eb&#8221; junction boxes, incorporating the <\/span><strong style=\"font-size: 16px;\">combination<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"> of the <\/span><strong style=\"font-size: 16px;\">Ex &#8220;db eb Gb&#8221;<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"> protection types present more <\/span><strong style=\"font-size: 16px;\">simplified<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"> field service characteristics, when compared with equipment with Ex &#8220;d&#8221; metal enclosures with a <\/span><strong style=\"font-size: 16px;\"><em>direct<\/em><\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"> cable entry system, either by means of Ex &#8220;d&#8221; <\/span><strong style=\"font-size: 16px;\">cable glands<\/strong><span style=\"font-size: 16px;\"> or by means of Ex &#8220;d&#8221; sealing units for conduits<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>[4]\u00a0 \u00a0<\/strong>All types of &#8220;Ex&#8221; protection can be considered &#8220;<strong>safe<\/strong>&#8220;, but only if the respective &#8220;Ex&#8221; instrumentation, automation, telecommunications, electrical or mechanical equipment has been properly <strong>specified<\/strong>, <strong>selected, installed, inspected, maintained or repaired<\/strong>, throughout its <strong>total life cycle<\/strong>. For these reasons &#8220;Ex&#8221; equipment should be specified which provides <strong>simpler<\/strong> field services from the point of view of the <strong>users<\/strong> and <strong>owners<\/strong> of the &#8220;Ex&#8221; equipment, who are <strong>responsible <\/strong>for the safety of their installations<\/p>\n<p><strong>[5]\u00a0 \u00a0<\/strong>In eventual cases, when there are no technical alternatives for the specification of equipment with <strong>metallic<\/strong> &#8220;explosion-proof&#8221; type enclosures, Ex &#8220;d&#8221; enclosures with <strong>THREADED<\/strong> lids and with an <strong>INDIRECT<\/strong> input system can be specified. In this kind of &#8220;Ex&#8221; products, available in the market since the <strong>1970&#8217;s<\/strong>, the cables external to the &#8220;Ex&#8221; equipment (power, command or automation circuit cables), installed by the users or owners of the equipment and installations, are connected to terminal boxes of the <strong>increased safety<\/strong> type (Ex &#8220;e&#8221;), not needing the opening of the metallic explosion-proof enclosures, reducing the <strong>risk of human errors<\/strong> in the field services for assembly, inspection or maintenance.
